Container Loading Calculator
Every online container calculator answers “how many boxes fit”. Almost none of them answers the question that actually decides a hardware order: does it weigh out first? This one checks both, for a single carton or a whole mixed order, and tells you which limit you hit and by how much.
Weight limit
What the box is rated for
Carton
0.0108 CBM per carton · 925 kg/m³
20' GP
2,818 cartons
Weight-limited

- 2,916
- Fits by weight
- 2,818
- Loaded
- 30.5 m³ · 28,180 kg
- Stack
- 36 × 9 × 9
Hits the 28,180 kg limit at 30.5 m³ — 92% full. Anything denser than 893 kg/m³ weighs out in this box.
40' GP
2,673 cartons

- Fits by weight
- 2,673
- Loaded
- 28.9 m³ · 26,730 kg
- Stack
- 75 × 9 × 9
Hits the 26,730 kg limit at 28.9 m³ — 43% full. Anything denser than 407 kg/m³ weighs out in this box.
40' HC

Hits the 26,580 kg limit at 28.7 m³ — 38% full. Anything denser than 364 kg/m³ weighs out in this box.
Volume or weight — one of them always wins
A container has two ceilings: the space inside and the payload it is rated to carry. Divide one by the other and you get the density at which they meet — about 1,006 kg/m³ for a 20ft and only 461 kg/m³ for a 40ft, because the 40ft doubles the space but not the payload. Cargo denser than that hits the weight limit with air left in the box.
- Abrasives, loose drills and bits are heavy — 800 to 1,500 kg/m³ packed. A 40ft of cut-off wheels is a weight problem, not a space problem, and usually a 20ft carries the same money’s worth for less freight.
- Colour-boxed sets, flap discs and hole saws are light — 250 to 450 kg/m³. These are what fill the roof space above a heavy floor layer without adding much to the scale.
- The mix is the skill. Heavy lines on the floor spread across the full length, light lines stacked on top, and the whole order under the road limit of the country it is going to — not the limit painted on the container.
